I've been thinking about upgrading to a HX, but want the machine to last for 20 to 25 years. This pretty much rules out models with a factory PID, since the controller for any particular model will be available only for eight or ten years at very,very best. I'm thinking about putting a pressure sensor in parallel with the existing pressurestat, then turning the pstat up just enough that it stays out of the way of a controller. Generic replacements would then be available for all the parts, and the machine could be returned to stock behaviour by simply turning off the controller and resetting the pstat. Pressure should be a better proxy for the temperature of the water than the temperature on the outside of the boiler.
There must be a gotcha hiding in this idea somewhere, or you'd never see a Rocket Apartamento without such a mod...
