I own a WSD-1200GPH I use on my Masterbuilt smoker......works GREAT!

Im working on building a bigger smoker and plan to use a 1650watt heating element. Specs for the WSD-1200GPH show its good to 1440 watts.

Would the WSD1200gph handle the additional 200 watt load as is, or can i change the ssr and or relay  in the controller to accommodate the additional load?

No, 1200GPH cannot handle 1650W element. It may not kill the controller immediately, but it will not last. This controller aluminum box only has the ability to dissipate 12A load.

For the modification, the easiest way is to use this controller to drive an external contactor, then use that contactor to drive your 1650W element. If you want to go with SSR, you need to use AC-trigger-AC SSR with heat sink (since the output of the controller is 120V ac).
